First Day in Chiang Mai

We arrived at the train station in Chiang Mai at 7:30am. I was a little anxious the whole ride about what we would do when we got there because I could think of a dozen places to stay if it were just me and David, but things are different when there's a baby (is Ezra still a baby?) in the picture. We had originally reserved a room at a guesthouse but it was the kind that catered to backpackers. So as we got off the train, I said a little prayer that everything would be alright. We walked toward all the hawkers and people yelling "Taxi! Taxi!" and looked at pictures of different rooms, making our way past them. Then I heard someone say, "Sister?" I looked and it was one of the members of the Church in Chiang Mai. Her husband drives a songthaew for a living and he was there too. Their family had gotten baptized just after I'd left Chiang Mai when I served there as a missionary. I can't explain how awesome it was to see them. I was so relieved. They took us around to a couple different places and played with Ezra while we went to check out the rooms. I know it was an answer to prayers and I'm so thankful to Heavenly Father for His tender mercies.

Our hotel had a little sitting room. Ezra found the bananas in there and you can see in this picture how he's trying to say "banana." What comes out sounds more like "Ba! Ba!"
One of my favorite place to eat in Chiang Mai: Jerusalem Falafel. The owners are a Thai/Israeli married couple. He is Thai and she is from Israel and the food is incredible.
Sister Redd and I liked to explore and this is one of the places we found. It's a reservoir up on a hill and it overlooks the city. Just before taking this picture, David asked, "Ezra, where's your head?"
A peacock! I had no idea they existed outside zoos. This one just came wandering by until a random dog came to chase it and it flew into the trees (see next picture).

These students were making some kind of movie but stopped to film Ezra and play for a second.
